Childthrive: Advanced Specialty Care in Child Psychology presents:
Mighty Mouth Kids Camp – Northwest Indiana (MMK-NWI)
Located in Crown Point, Indiana (Crown Point Public Library)
MMK-NWI is based on Dr. Steven Kurtz’s MMK camp and pioneering model for the intensive group treatment for selective mutism and draws inspiration from Dr. Carmen M Tumialan Lynas’s Adventure Camp, which was the first intensive group program for selective mutism to replicate Dr. Kurtz’s original “Brave Buddies” camp for the treatment of selective mutism.
MMK-NWI, led by Dr. Andrea Brandon, was trained in selective mutism treatment by Dr. Steven Kurtz and Dr. Carmen Lynas in 2011. Dr. Brandon participated in the delivery of Dr. Lynas’s Adventure Camp, a five-day intensive program for selective mutism, and co-presented with Dr. Kurtz (developer of Parent Child Interactive Training Adapted for Selective Mutism) at the first external PCIT-SM training in St. Louis, MO, on March 6-7, 2020.
MMK-NWI will deliver the intensive group treatment protocol for the treatment of selective mutism in a simulated classroom setting to further develop confident speaking behaviors needed in the classroom setting and beyond. Intensive practice includes verbally responding to facilitator/teacher within the group setting, group classroom presentations, interacting socially with other campers, and participating in community exposures.
