PCIT-OC was developed by Mc Neil and Hembree-Kigin.
Unlike the standard PCIT, PCIT-OC has not yet completed randomized control trials (RCT). A study with a small sample size outcome study has demonstrated significant changes in parent skill development and a reduction in problem behaviors. Are you feeling stressed, frustrated, or overwhelmed as a parent or caregiver with your older child’s strong-willed, uncooperative, defiant, aggressive, or destructive behaviors?
PCIT adaptation for older children can help with:
– decreasing problematic behaviors.
– increasing expected behaviors.
– improving the relationship between you and your child.
Parent-Child Interaction Therapy adapted for older children (PCIT-OC) is appropriate for children ages 7 years to 10 years old. This therapy protocol was developed from the wildly successful and evidenced based standard PCIT for ages ranging from 2 to 7 years old. To learn more about PCIT, click here: https://www.pcit.org. The protocol for older children strives to keep as much of the original model in tact while creating adaptions to fit the older child population and their developmental needs. The PCIT-OC protocol maintains the live coaching model used in standard PCIT. Synchronous coaching makes highly effective parenting skills come alive, as you learn how to implement your new parenting skills in real time!
Like the standard PCIT, the older child adaptation has two phases of treatment:
1) Relationship Enhancement
2) Effective Discipline
